Our experienced staff meet regularly to discuss student data and plan for teaching and learning.
All students receive two written reports per year. A teacher or parent may request interviews at any time of year if required.
Report 1: Mid year (end of term 2) detailed report identifying individual achievements and/or areas of improvement, in relation to the standards set by the Education Department. This report is also discussed at a parent/teacher interview.
Report 2: End of year detailed report also identifying individual achievements and/or areas of improvement, in relation to the standards set by the Education Department.
Students at Kossie are actively engaged in classroom curriculum. This is supported through school wide activities and unit activities which ensure that students build strong connections with their school and local communities.

At the beginning of 2014 Kossie joined the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. All students participate in a weekly session with a Specialist teacher. One week the focus is on gardening and the second week cooking and related kitchen topics.

Camps, excursions and visiting performances provide direct and real life learning experiences, which are followed up in the class program. Camps, excursions and visiting performances are planned well in advance and parents are notified via the newsletter or special notice.
At Kossie we care about our environment and try to make a difference to the world around us. We have a Sustainability Program which includes recycling, gardening and worm farming. Children are selected from each grade to become Sustainability officers or assistants. It is their responsibility to meet each week and discuss problems or events incorporating the ideals of a cleaner environment. We meet many challenges such as reducing rubbish in our school yard (Rubbish free lunches) and gardening with the seasons.
For our Junior Students (Grades P-2) a six session program is conducted in a local heated pool. The program is managed by trained swimming teachers and aims at developing children’s skills in water safety.
For our Senior Students (Grades 3-6) an outdoor program is offered to children in grades 3 to 6. This involves one session in the outdoor pool and a school based House Swimming Carnival.
There is also an opportunity for students to participate in the Traralgon Carnival and District Schools Swimming Carnival.
These programs are an optional aspect of school activities at Kossie. The programs are designed to provide a range of interesting activities as alternatives to general play at lunchtime. The programs that we offer may be conducted by students, staff, parents, community volunteers, and/ or community groups/clubs or associations.
