At Kosciuszko Street Primary School, we provide our students with a diverse range of specialist programs taught by experienced teachers. These programs offer our students the opportunity to explore various subjects and enhance their educational experience during their time at Kossie.
Physical Education is a vital component of our curriculum and school life at Kossie. All students, from Prep to Grade 6, participate in weekly Physical Education lessons. Our program includes fitness sessions, junior and senior sport programs, interschool sport for Year 5-6 students, swimming carnivals for Year 3-6 students, and an athletics carnival. Additionally, all Kossie students take part in a water awareness and swimming program conducted by trained teachers, promoting water safety skills. Students also have the chance to compete against other schools in local events such as cross country and tennis.
Our Visual Arts program fosters creativity and artistic expression. We provide age-appropriate and stage-based art experiences, building students' skills and knowledge as they progress through the school. Through exploring and responding to artists and their artworks, students develop their ability to recognize and appreciate visual arts in historical and contemporary contexts. To celebrate our Visual Arts program, we hold an Art Show or a school-wide production every alternate year.
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program introduces our students to the joys of good food through the development of a productive food garden and an exciting kitchen. The program is an integral part of our school curriculum and aims to engage students' curiosity while teaching them how to grow and care for food, recognize when it is ripe, and prepare it in enjoyable ways. We want to inspire students to broaden their eating habits by experiencing the delicious taste of fresh, homegrown produce. The program focuses on the mantra of growing, harvesting, preparing, and sharing.
We are excited to announce that we now offer a Science program for all Kossie students. Our Science program provides an excellent opportunity for students to explore topics such as Astronomy, Energy Transformations, and Push and Pull Forces. Through hands-on experiences and observation, students engage in scientific learning. By presenting topics systematically and clearly, we foster steady and secure progress in their understanding of the world around them.
All students at Kosciuszko Street Primary School, from Prep to Grade 6, participate in Auslan, a Language Other Than English (LOTE) program. Auslan is taught weekly by the classroom teacher, offering students the chance to learn about the importance of sign language in the community and develop communication skills through signing.
