At Kosciuszko Street Primary School, we deeply value the importance of supporting our students' wellbeing. We are committed to creating and maintaining a positive and safe learning environment that fosters both academic and social growth for every individual student. We believe that a strong emphasis on student engagement and wellbeing is crucial for their overall development and success.
To achieve this, we have implemented various strategies and initiatives that prioritize student wellbeing and promote positive behavior throughout our school community.
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
Our school follows the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework, which establishes clear expectations for behaviour and reinforces positive actions. Through a constant focus on our school values we foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and resilience, ensuring that all students understand and embrace these values in their daily interactions. We also explicitly teach routines so that students are ready to learn and are ready to be challenged everyday.
Student Wellbeing Officer
We have a dedicated Student Wellbeing Officer who works closely with students, families, and staff to provide support, guidance, and resources for addressing individual needs and promoting overall wellbeing.
As part of our dedication to fostering an inclusive environment, we have a Student Inclusion Officer whose role aims to ensure that every student has equitable access to quality education. Our Student Inclusion Leader works closely with students, families, and staff to provide support, resources, and guidance for students with diverse abilities and learning needs. They play a vital role in advocating for inclusive practices, promoting positive attitudes, and facilitating the creation of an inclusive and supportive school community. By embracing inclusivity, we empower all our students to thrive and reach their full potential in a nurturing and accepting environment.
As part of our commitment to nurturing resilience and positive mental health, we actively engage with The Resilience Project. This evidence-based program equips students with valuable skills and strategies to build resilience, gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness.
We recognize and celebrate student achievements and positive behaviour through awards presented at our regular school assemblies. This acknowledges their efforts, encourages continued growth, and reinforces a positive school culture using our four values to provide this positive feedback.
We implement a Yard Raffle Tickets system to further promote positive behaviour and engagement during playtime. Students have the opportunity to earn raffle tickets by demonstrating the four values through their positive actions, which can lead to exciting rewards at assembly.
In addition to these initiatives, we have a comprehensive Student Engagement policy that outlines our approach to discipline, the promotion of positive behaviour, preventive strategies, and a strong stance against bullying. This policy ensures a consistent and supportive approach to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
To support the physical well-being of our students, we offer a Breakfast Club twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. This program allows students to kickstart their day with a healthy breakfast in a welcoming environment, promoting their overall well-being. Participation in the Breakfast Club requires a gold coin donation.
Furthermore, we have introduced a Community Pantry located in the foyer near the Front Office. This pantry, stocked with food items donated by Food Bank, provides essential pantry items such as cereal, long-life milk, baked beans, soup, and fruit when available. Parents and carers are welcome to access these items, and students can pick up food items with a note in their diary from a parent or carer. Green bags are provided if needed, or individuals can bring their own bag.
At Kosciuszko Street Primary School, we are committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment where students' wellbeing is at the forefront. Through our comprehensive approach to student engagement and wellbeing, we strive to maximize their academic and social growth, equipping them with the skills and resilience necessary to thrive in both school and life.
